I am writing to inform you of the forthcoming Old Cantab’s Golf Day, held this year at Girton Golf Club. The day will start with coffee and bacon roll on arrival at around 11.30am, followed by 18 holes of golf and culminating with a 3-course meal around 5.00pm. The prize giving will be held during the meal, trophy and prizes kindly sponsored by Bradshaws Estate Agents. The evening meal will also be attended by some non-golfing Old Cantabs.
The cost for the day, inclusive of the above, will be £45 (£25 for Girton members). I will need some commitment “up front” from you to allow me to book the caterers etc so if you could make cheques payable to James Milner and forward them to me as soon as possible at the address below it would be of great help.
I very much hope that you will be able to attend the event and I look forward to meeting you on the day. If you know of any other Old Cantabs who may be interested in this event, please pass on my details.
This year we are also opening the event to guests who are not Old Cantabs. There will be a separate prize for the top guest on the day. If you wish a guest to join you then simply make a note in any accompanying letter/email and forward payment as above.
If there is anything else you wish to discuss, including food related no-go’s, then do not hesitate to give me a call.
Members who fondly remember 'The Cantabrigian' magazine will be delighted to know that the current generation of students also produce their own publication. It's called 'The Phoenix', and you can see a copy of it on-line here.
Congratulations to AJB Jackson (48-54) who in June 2009, at the age of 72, graduated from Cranfield University with a PhD degree. The topic was “Optimisation of Aero and Industrial Gas Turbine Design for the Environment”.
Is Tony the oldest Old Cantabrigian to be awarded a Phd? Is anybody going to challenge or beat this record?
The College Old Cantabrigian prize winners for 2009 were:
The Old Cantabrigian Society Prize – Stephanie Binks.
The Old Cantabrigian Society Centenary Prize – Michaela Rizzo
The Old Cantabrigian Society Layng Prize – Charlotte Duthie-Smith
The Old Cantabrigian Society War Memorial Prize – Charlotte Wells
The Hill Prize- Johannes Wolf.
Our congratulations and best wishes for the future to all.
