The Oldest PhD?

Congratulations to AJB Jackson (48-54) who in June 2009, at the age of 72, graduated from Cranfield University with a PhD degree. The topic was “Optimisation of Aero and Industrial Gas Turbine Design for the Environment”. Is Tony the oldest Old Cantabrigian to be awarded a Phd? Is anybody going to challenge or beat this record?

I cannot believe it rtook Tony so long to get a PhD. I'm sure he would have been awarded it at 25 if he had bothered to try!
