I was saddened recently to come across an obituary for Bryan, quite by chance. It seems that he died in June after a long illness at the age of 57.
For those who did not know, Bryan was one of those CHSB/HRSFC crossovers and became a barrister, rising to be a QC. He was renowned at school for his good humour, even temper (just as well since he was a big lad and a powerhouse prop!) and his sense of fair play. He carried this on in his career, representing many housing issues and it seems (from the obit.) that his last appearance was somewhat of a landmark, persuading the Supreme Court to change legal precedent.
Very sad indeed; well played, Bryan – good innings.
Wow, I hadn’t heard about Bryan (or Paddy as we always called him). He was one of those people who everyone always liked. He was about 5’10” when we started in the first year at CHSB and was still 5’10” when we all left after seven years.
A true gentleman on and off the rugby field and in life. A man who will be sadly missed.
